Recent Barrie Colts Alumnus, Aidan Brown, has been proudly contributing to his local hockey community for nearly half a decade.
Aidan received his secondary school diploma in 2017 amidst a diverse schooling system, including: Blyth Academy, Innisdale Secondary School, St. Andrew’s College and his local high school. Brown was awarded the accolades of Honour Roll (grades 9-12) and the Academic Player of the Month Award with the Barrie Colts. Since graduating high school, Aidan has been pursuing post-secondary education at Guelph University through a plethora of general courses. Aidan’s goal is to complete university with a degree in business.
Throughout his young life, Aidan admired his dad as a role model and a mentor, having watched him run a successful business for many years. Mentorship paralleled with business course knowledge sparked Aidan’s creativity into starting a summer kids hockey tournament. Beginning in the summer of 2016, Brown runs two 3 on 3, 20 team hockey tournaments a year for four different age groups. Aidan uses his website, Facebook and Instagram to promote his tournament. He has applied all aspects of business education to be successful, including: scheduling, budgeting, communications, marketing and relationship development with sponsors, such as: Under Armour, OHL and M&M Meats.
“I wasn’t able to run my hockey camp this year due to COVID-19, but I fully intend on running it for many years to come. I look forward to continuing to give back to my local hockey community,” commented Aidan.
“Aidan was a strong member of our community during his time in Barrie. To see him use the skills he developed during his OHL career, to help grow his hockey tournament and get his post-secondary education, is something we are very proud of,” said Barrie Colts Assistant General Manager, Rob Stewart.
Aidan Brown continued “I believe I am much more successful in my business classes now because of my own business experience with my hockey tournament.”
Sponsored by Teachers Life, we are honoured to recognize the story of Aidan Brown’s academic success and achievements. We have no doubt that Aidan will continue his success by contributing back to his local hockey community.
