Badenhorst, Landry and Magwood Commit To Barrie Colts

Barrie, ON– Barrie Colts General Manager & Head Scout Jason Ford announced today that three players have committed to the team. Forward Zachary Magwood, defenceman Kade Landry and goaltender Ruan Badenhorst have all signed Ontario Hockey League standard player agreements.

Badenhorst, 16, appeared in four regular season contents for the Barrie Colts in the 2014-15 season posting a 1-2-0-1 record. Barrie originally drafted the Tiny Township, Ontario native in the 9th round (173rd overall) in 2014. The 5’9”, 156-pound goalie earned his first OHL victory on November 7th, 2014 at the Sudbury Community Arena. In three pre-season contests this season, Badenhorst has posted a 1.35 GAA.

Landry, 16, was selected by the Colts at this past 2015 OHL Priority Selection in the 7th round (123rd overall). He spent last season with the Huron Perth Lakers Min. Midget AAA team scoring 3 goals and 13 points in 33 games played.

Lastly, Magwood, 17, played for the Cambridge Winter Hawks in the GOJHL last season registering 8 goals and 22 points in 48 appearances, while tallying 17 PIMS. The 5 foot 9, 184 pound centreman was originally drafted by Barrie in the 6th round (113th overall) in the 2014 OHL Priority selection draft. The Cambridge, Ontario native was also a member of the Bronze Medal winning team at the 2013-14 OHL Gold Cup for the Alliance.

“The Colts are extremely pleased to have signed these players; as they add to our promising list of prospects from the 98-99 group,” said General Manager & Head Scout Jason Ford. “These players moving forward will add character, skill and competitiveness to the roster, and we look forward to having them become key figures in our lineup.”

Badenhorst, Landry and Magwood will enroll with Blyth Academy Barrie to complete their high school education.
