2018-19 Barrie Colts Training Camp

The Barrie Colts Training Camp for 2018-19kicked off on Tuesday.

The morning saw the players meeting at Mind to Muscle for some off-ice testing where they tested their strength and agility.

In the afternoon all the players were split into 4 different teams (Gold, Navy, White and Red). Two games were played with Navy vs. White as the first matchup and Red vs. Gold for the second one.

Day 1

White vs. Navy

The game was mostly dominated by Team White in this one as they were lead by Ryan Suzuki who was able to tally two goals.  Payton Schaly also found the back of the net twice and Maksim Zhukov along with Christian Filippetti only allowed 1 goal as Team White skated to an easy 6-1 victory.  Other goals from Team White were by Connor May and Chris Cameron and Bryce Sutherland scored the lone goal for Team Navy.

Red vs. Gold

In the Red vs. Gold game it was a back and forth affair for the first half.  Team Red’s Aidan Brown stole the show as he was able to net a hat-trick in their 6-3 victory.  Team Gold would actually have a 3-2 lead before Red stormed back.  Scoring goals for Team Red was Nathan Allensen, Connor LePage and Lucas Chiodo along with Brown’s three.  For Team Gold it was Zach Magwood, Daniel Nikiforov and Aidan Hughes with the markers.

Tomorrows action will see 4 different games and give the coaching and scouting staff a better idea of who will make the cut towards the Blue and White game which commences on Thursday night at 7pm.

Day 2

Day two of training camp saw a full day of scrimmages.  First game of the day was Team White vs. Team Gold. Both teams battled back and forth the entire game, but just had one goal scored.  It was our 2018 1st round pick, Riley Piercey picking up the lone goal for Team Gold in the win.

The second game of the morning saw Team Navy square up against Team Red.  It was another low scoring affair as Navy squeaked out the 2-1 victory.

The afternoon saw Team Gold going head to head against Team Navy.  In this game it was Patrick Del Vecchio getting Gold on the board first, but they never saw the scoreboard afterwards.  Team Navy stormed back with goals by Noah Marino, Kyle Heitzner and Jaden Peca to secure the win.

In the final game of the day it was Team White vs. Team Red.  White was able to hold on just barely scratching out a 3-2 victory.  Team White goals were from Nathaniel Hanley, Zach Magwood and  Jacob Ertel.  While on the Red side, their goals came from Connor LePage and Lucas Chiodo.

Cuts will be made to bring the roster down to two teams for tomorrow nights Blue and White game.  The puck drops tomorrow night at 7pm at the Barrie Molson Centre and will be free admission to all.
