The Barrie Colts and Blyth Academy together announced the launch of The Barrie Colts Hockey Academy on Wednesday, July 18th.

This one-of-a-kind program provides student athletes with elite athletic training and personalized learning. This partnership also sees the Barrie Colts become the first OHL team to establish its own hockey academy and offer private education to their players.

“I’m extremely excited to be part of this innovative program,” said Barrie Colts Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk, who will lead the athletic development program.  “This program provides student athletes the best-in-class sports training and a flexible schedule that ensures they can perform at both sports and school,” added Hawerchuk.

“For high performance athletes, The Barrie Colts Hockey Academy provides an unbeatable advantage,” said Sam Blyth, chair of Blyth Academy.  “With athletic training led by the renowned Dale Hawerchuk as well as personalized education there is no better option for student athletes.  We are also extremely excited to make Blyth Academy Barrie the official school of the Barrie Colts OHL hockey team.”

The Barrie Colts Hockey Academy will open its doors in September 2012 as part of the curriculum at the Blyth Academy Barrie campus. The school accommodates both full-time and part-time students between grades 7 and 12 and is currently accepting applications.
