Training Camp Results Day 2

Day 2 of training camp kicked off with Team Gold facing off against Team White.

Team Gold vs. Team White

The game kicked off with a flurry of Team Gold chances.  First off it was Luke Bignell with a glorious one time opportunity that Team White goaltender Catalin Morin came across and absolutely robbed him on.

Gold kept on coming as Morin was forced to make another big stop in front before Bignell put it home, but it was called back because of goaltender interference, keeping things scoreless.

Moments later a Gold breakaway helped highlight another big stop by Morin who came to play Wednesday morning.

Finally Gold was able to get one past him, Bignell was setup by Kirill Nizhnikov before firing it over the glove hand of Morin to open the scoring.

Team White would tie the score nearing the end of the first period. Andrei Svechnikov finished off a nice play to bury one.  The lone assist went to Alexei Lipanov.

Early in the second frame it was Colts overages Jason Smith getting on the scoreboard.  A scramble in front had the puck bounce onto his stick as he hammered it past Christian Propp to give White their first lead of the game.  Both Josiah Degazon and David Sherman collected assists on the goal.

White would strike again.  This time it was Degazon getting sprung on a partial break by Lipanov and he snapped it home glove side on Propp giving Team White a 3-1 lead.

After Team Yellow took a penalty, Team White went to work.  Controlling the play for almost the whole minute, White finished off a beautiful passing play.  It was Svechnikov with his second of the game which was a rocket from below the circle. He was setup by both Lipanov and Landry to give Team White a bit more insurance.

Team Red vs. Team Navy

The scoring in this game got started early.  It was two Colts from last years team, combining for the opening goal for Team Red.  Aidan Brown dropped a pass for Giordano Finoro who finished it off by putting it past Jet Greaves for the 1-0 lead.

Later on in the first Lucas Chiodo got a fortunate bounce to spring him on a breakaway, but was denied by the post, keeping Team Navy off the board.

Minutes later at the end of a Red power play Ryan Suzuki was all alone in front and he was stopped by the crossbar keeping the score at 1-0.

With just over three minutes left in the opening period Team Navy would finally strike. Jacob Schnapp receive a pass from Kyle Heitzner and would weave his way through defenders and beat Joe Howe to tie things up.

A very quick start to the second period for Team Navy as Jason Willms was rewarded with a funny bounce that made its way off a defenders skate and behind Kai Edmonds. Chiodo and Schaly picked up the assists on the go ahead goal.

The lead was short lived, as Finoro would strike again. This time on a breakaway beating Noah West five hole.

Team Navy would take the lead again. After breaking into the zone Chiodo worked his way down low and would then find Schaly sliding into the slot and he made no mistake giving them a 3-2 lead. Michael Greco would record the second assist.

After a long stretch of no goals, Red would find the back of the net.  Josh Supryka took a drop pass from Finoro and fired it past West to tie the game at three. Tyler Tucker would record an assist on the goal as well.

This game would require overtime. Tucker would pickup the puck at his own blue line and skate it all the way into Navy zone and find Christian Taylor cutting to the net and he would win it for Red. Final score 4-3.

Team Gold vs. Team Navy

This one started off a little slow as neither team could muster up a goal early.  The play of Propp and Jet Greaves really stole the show.  Both goaltenders were sharp keeping the game scoreless.

The scoring never got started till the second period.  Sam Rhodes was the beneficiary of a loose puck in the crease and he put it past West. Jaden Peca and Anthony Grigg picked up assists.

Navy didn’t take long to get one of their own. The puck was bouncing around behind the net before Heitzner found it and dished it out in front to Douglas who put it past Pierce Charleston to tie the game at one. Schaly recorded the other assist.

About midway through the second period it was Bignell muscling his way in on goal and beat West far side to give Gold the 2-1 lead. Nizhnikov gathered the lone assist on the goal.

With just over a minute to go it was some great passing that set up the tying goal for Team Navy.  Chiodo moved the puck in deep where Schaly would pick it up and feed Douglas alone in front to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Just 24 seconds into overtime Jason Willms takes things into his own hands and dances around everyone and fires it home to give Navy the victory.  Chiodo and Murray drew the assists.

Team White vs. Team Red

It didn’t take long for scoring to happen in this one.  After a long period of time in the zone, Team White would be the first to score.  Chris Cameron was able to keep the puck in at the point and moved it down to Hawerchuk.  He then found Lipanov movie towards the goal who out waited Edmonds to put White on the board.

Once again with lots of control in the offensive zone, White was able to strike. Degazon was able to snap one past Edmonds to extend the White lead to 2-0. Jason Smith and Victor Polowy drew the assists on the goal.

Red was never able to generate many chance but they did get one late in this one.  Finoro had a chance in the slot but wasn’t able to beat Morin. On the same play the puck came out to Team White and they went down and scored.  Svechnikov would get credit for. Hawerchuk and Lipanov got the assists.
