After losing two straight games for only the second time this season, the Barrie Colts showed up ready to play tonight. The Colts controlled the puck right from the get go and would eventually take the lead midway through the opening frame. At 10:53 Barrie’s top line had a picture perfect 3 on 2 rush where Anthony Camara would wind up scoring after a nice passing play. Mark Scheifele and Zach Hall assisted on the goal. Just a few minutes later the Greyhounds would tie the game on a lucky break. The puck was shot wide by Colin Miller and bounced right out front to Michael Schumacher who put it home. Before the end of the first period, the Barrie Colts would re take the lead on a highlight reel goal by Mark Scheifele. Scheifele would dangle the Greyhounds defensemen to get in all alone before deking out goaltender Matt Murray. Anthony Camara would get the lone assist.

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds would bounce back in the second period and eventually take the lead. Less than two minutes in, Jared McCann would score to tie the game at two when he found himself all alone out front. After a battle down low, Nick Halagian would get the puck to McCann out front where he put it passed a diving Mathias Niederberger. Sergey Tolchinsky also picked up an assist. At 11:13 Ryan Sproul would then score for the Greyhounds to give his team their first lead of the game 3 – 2. The Barrie Colts came close to tying this game back up as they hit the post while on the power play, but found themselves down by one heading into the final period.

Mark Scheifele and the Barrie Colts would eventually claw their way back in the third. On a Colts power play, Aaron Ekblad would blast a shot on net when Scheifele would pounce on the rebound scoring his second of the game. Barrie continued to push the pace, leading to a power play chance in the dieing minutes. At 17:14 Aaron Ekblad would once again put the puck on net where this time forward Josh MacDonald would find the rebound. MacDonald would slide the puck home putting the Colts back on top 4 – 3. With 6 seconds left Mark Scheifele would finish this game off completing the hat trick. Tonight’s hat trick was Scheifele’s third on the season and second against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds this year.

Mathias Niederberger had a strong performance tonight making 30 saves for his 15th win of the season, good for 1st in the league amongst all goaltenders. Barrie’s specialty teams went 2 for 7 on the power play and perfect on the penalty kill. Mark Scheifele sits third in league scoring with 43 points.

The Barrie Colts will now head out on the road next week for match ups against the Windsor Spitfires and London Knights. The Colts next home game is December 6th versus the Sudbury Wolves. Click here for tickets.
