Rangers Shut Down Colts 3-0; Snap Six Game Win Streak

Kitchener’s Luke Richardson would make 43 saves in a 3-0 shutout over the Barrie Colts Tuesday evening.

Both teams came into the night on winning streaks. The Colts came in on the best streak of the season, riding a 6 game winning streak and looking to extend it on a very busy week. While the home team came in riding a streak of their own, winners of their last 4 games. Something had to give on this rare Tuesday night.

The first period felt like more of a feeling out period for the two clubs who are seeing each other for the second time this season.

There were a few chances at both ends but neither team could find the answer as the first period flew by and stayed scoreless.

After a period of no scoring it wouldn’t take long to get the scoring started in the second as Kitchener would break the scoreless tie. Riley Damiani was johnny on the spot as he put home the opening marker just twenty seconds into the middle frame on the powerplay.

The Rangers would keep the foot on the pedal. Just minutes later they would put another one home, this time it was Kyle Gentles for his first of the season that bounced and danced it’s way past Leo Lazarev on a very strange goal to give Kitchener the 2-0 lead.

They were looking for more but the Colts Russian net minder came up huge with the glove hand as this one would head to the third with the Colts down by two.

In the final frame it looked like Kitchener was going to run away with things but Lazarev who had a 48 save victory on Sunday night against the Attack came up with two huge stops to keep Barrie in the game.

The Rangers would find a way to solve Barrie’s overage goaltender in the third though. It was a blast from the point by Logan Stanley who one-timed it past him to extend the lead to 3-0.

That would hold up as the final score as the Colts had a flurry of chances nearing the end of the game but couldn’t beat Luke Richardson of Kitchener.

The loss ends Barrie’s winning streak at six game. Not too much time to dwell on things as the Colts are back in action on Thursday night as they play host to the London Knights at 7:30pm.
