Lipanov Signs with the Colts at the NHL Draft

Barrie, ON– Barrie Colts General Manager & Head Scout Jason Ford announced today that Russian forward Alexei Lipanov has signed an OHL contract with the Barrie Colts.

Lipanov, 18 was drafted by the Barrie Colts in the 1st round of the 2016 CHL Import Draft 44th overall. The 6 foot, 200-pound centreman from Moskva, Russia played overseas in his homeland in two different leagues last year. He started in the MHL with the HK MVD Balashikha where he collected 3 points in 11 games. He then went on to play in the VHL for Dynamo Balashikha where he tallied 3 goals and 8 points in 21 games. Lipanov also represented his country in the World Juniors as captain of Team Russia where he contributed 3 points in seven games of the tournament.

The 18 year old is also expected to be drafted within the first few rounds of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago this weekend.

The Barrie Colts would like to wish Alexei the best of luck this weekend in Chicago and are excited for him to become part of the Colts family for the 2017-18 season.
